JoAnn Mizell, age 90, of Troy, IL, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Charter Senior Living of Troy. JoAnn was born August 29, 1935, in Mississippi County, AR, to Oscar and Lydian (Avery) Tolbert.

JoAnn was the seventh of 8 children. She grew  up on a farm near Harrisburg, AR. She moved to St. Louis as a teenager. Her first job was as a waitress at Crown Candy. After her children started school, she worked at Hostess Bakery, retiring after 27 years. She loved cats, dogs, and playing bingo.

JoAnn married James Mizell on January 10, 1953. He preceded her in death in 2000. She was also preceded in death by a son, Monte Mizell; grandson, Ryan Roach; and siblings, Louise, Pauline, Ruby, Bill, Bert, Charlie, and Peggy.

She is survived by her son, Carl (Linda) Mizell and daughters, Linda (Dan) Jones and Sheila (Robert) Wilson. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Mat Shalenko, Cassie Richerson, Randy Roach and Rodney Roach, and great grandchildren Emily, Lila, and Calvin.

JoAnn raised her family in Collinsville. She lived at Charter Senior Living of Troy since 2021. The family would like to thank the Charter staff and the staff from Hospice of Southern Illinois for the excellent care given to mom.

Visitation will be at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, IL, on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00, the funeral will follow at 12:00.
