Obituary

John Allan Corrie, 83, of Maryville, IL, passed away on Friday, July 17th, 2026, at Anderson Hospital. John was born on June 21st, 1943, in E. St. Louis, IL, to parents John and Peggy Corrie.

John met his loving wife, Ethel, at a dance held at Panorama Bowl in Belleville, IL, while being set up on a blind date. That blind date turned into 61 years of marriage with two children, Michelle and Julie. Outside of his family, John was a proud Army Veteran who spent three years serving his country. After 38 years, he retired from Ameren as a control technician. John was a quiet natured man who loved bird watching, especially Cardinals amongst others. He was an avid bowler, having bowled on Thursdays at 6 PM like clockwork for 35 years. After retirement, when he wasn't bowling, spending time with his family, or listening to Elvis Presley, he could be found tinkering with electronics.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Peggy Corrie. He is survived by his loving wife, Ethel Corrie; daughters, Michelle (Joseph) Pickering and Julie (Gabriel) Ridgely; brothers, Jeff (Vivian) Corrie and Jerry Corrie; grandchildren, Corrie Pickering, Cole Pickering, David Henze, Sarah Henze, and Lauren Henze; as well as one great-grandchild, Eliana Rose Pickering.

A public visitation will be held from the Chapel of Sunset Hill Funeral Home on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026, from 9:00 A.M until the hour of service at 11:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to the American Heart Association or to St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Maryville, IL.

The family is being served by Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Drive, Glen Carbon, IL, 62034.
