John P. Lueckerath Jr., 82, of Granite City, Ill., born Nov. 1, 1928, in St. Louis, Mo., died at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at Elmwood Nursing Home in Maryville, Ill.
Mr. Lueckerath worked for Garnite City National Steel as a security guard retiring April 30, 1994. He attended Trinity Tabernacle Church in Madison, Ill. and also attended Victory Worship Center in Granite City, Ill. John was a veteran.
The bond that John had with his grandsons was special, he was the father figure and role model for them.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy P., nee Rogers, Lueckerath, whom he married on Oct. 10, 1959; parents, John P. and Dorothy P., nee King, Lueckerath Sr.
Surviving are his daughter, Donna Lueckerath-Lewis; and grandsons, Terry (Paula) Lueckerath of Maryville, Ill., Tim Lueckerath of Granite City, Ill., and Jason Lewis of Columbus, Ohio.
