John W. McAdams, age 70, of Edwardsville, Ill., born October 22, 1943, in Jacksonville, Ill., beloved husband of Karen, nee Marchetti, McAdams, passed away June 18, 2014, at his residence.

John served four years in the U.S. Marine Corp. He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lock and Dam #27 in Granite City, Ill. John felt honored to be a member of Cpt. Sterlings Co. Black Watch 42nd Regiment of Foot Historical Reinactment Group. He was also a member of the Lincoln Land Leather Necks Marine Corps. League, Det. #1174 and proud to be Commander of the Det. Color Guard; a member of the Military Order of the Devil Dogs Society; VFW Post 805; American Legion Post 199; and Mason''s Walshville Lodge #475.

John loved fishing, camping, traveling, family genealogy, participating in historical reinactments, and most of all spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grace Peterson, nee Witworth, and John Dale McAdams.

In addition to his wife whom he married on May 28, 1966; John is survived by daughters, Lisa McAdams of East Alton, Ill. and Tammy McAdams of Staunton, Ill.; grandchildren, Brandy (Grant) Hart, Becky McAdams, Tavish Patterson, Brennan Patterson, Keeley Patterson; great grandchildren Madison Hart and Abgail Hart; brothers, Steve (Jean) McAdams of Green Valley, Ill., Mike (Barb) McAdams of Colorado Springs, Col., Randy (Connie) McAdams of Pittsfield, Ill., and John Dennis McAdams of Springfield, Ill.; sisters, Linda Hamilton of Sherman, Ill., Sue (Glenn) Bowman of Worden, Ill., and Kay Lee of St. Joseph, Mo.; brother in law Gary Marchetti of Mountain Home, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Canines for Veterans or The Fight Continues for Veterans (Transitional Help for Veterans) and will be accepted at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.sunsethillcemetery.com.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2014 at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, Glen Carbon, Ill. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
