John Paul Mersinger, 83, of Collinsville, Ill., born Tuesday, May 12, 1931, in Collinsville, Ill., passed away at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at Elmwood Nursing Home in Maryville, Ill.

John started his career with Throme Construction then was a self-employed carpenter and retired from Shell Oil Company. He was a member of Carpenters Local 377 and American Legion Post 377 in Edwardsville, Ill. He loved to play golf, dance and play cards with friends. He was a devout Catholic and a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. John was always there for friends and family and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane E., nee Scott, Mersinger, whom he married on Nov. 24, 1955; his parents, John and Annabelle, nee Paul, Mersinger; a brother, Elvin G. Mersinger; and two sisters, Helen Taveggia and Norene Warren.

Surviving are his companion, Kay Duvall of Collinsville, Ill.; his son, John Scott (Amy) Mersinger of Collinsville, Ill.; and three grandchildren, John, Anna and Jovie..

Visitation: Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, at Herr Funeral Home, Collinsville, Ill., and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at the church with Father John Beveridge officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Collinsville, Ill.
