John Richard Wongler Sr. - Late of Caseyville, IL, passed away peacefully, March 17, 2023, at St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

John was born December 23, 1951, in Boonville, IN to the late Leo and Pearl (nee Keith) Wongler.

John enjoyed working outside building small projects, camping; driving his golf cart around the campground and going to parties at the Rec Hall.  When John was younger he loved taking his family to the stock car races, carnivals, the zoo and enjoyed a lot of good times with friends, but most of all he enjoyed having his family around him, he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Donna (nee Fredricks) Wongler of Caseyville;  his children John Wongler Jr, of Caseyville; Scott (Elizabeth Utley) Wongler of Caseyville; Jennifer (Kim Smith) Wongler of Collinsville; Patrick (Lauren) Wongler of Collinsville.  Eight grandchildren Bryce (Lilly Newmann) Wongler, Reginald (Mary Ann Oldham) Kilbert Jr, Chelsie Smith, Devon Kilbert, Zachary (Tahlor Gray)  Wongler, Jordan Wongler, Brayden Wongler,  Jacob Wongler and Colin Pruitt and his great-granddaughter Skye Kilbert.

Preceded in death by his parents Leo and Pearl Wongler; seven brothers, three sisters, and two grandchildren Makayla Kilbert and Carter Wongler.

John proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1970-1974.

John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be missed dearly.

Funeral services will be held at Herr Funeral Home, 501 West Main Street, Collinsville, on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Interment St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 4-8 PM and again on Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 10:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM.
