COLLINSVILLE, IL- John C. Steiner, 83, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital.

He was born June 18, 1935 in E. St. Louis, IL to Alice Mae Coleman. He was raised by his mother and his step-father, William Schremp. They both preceded him in death.

John is survived by his wife, Janet (nee, Sykes) Steiner, whom he married on May 11, 1957 in Collinsville, IL. She survives and resides in Collinsville, IL. He is also survived by his children, Ken (Shari) Steiner of Collinsville, IL and Kelly (Kevin) Garrett of Troy, IL; three grandchildren, Cori Steiner, Nikki Steiner and Kyle Garrett; and his sister, Glory (William) Ambuehl of Beverly Hills, FL.

John was employed with Trans World Airlines for 40 years as a ticket agent.

He was a gifted musician and brought his talents to many events in the area throughout the years. He played in the Waterloo German Band and also sang with the Barbershop Chorus. John was a talented drummer, clarinetist and saxophonist who loved to share his music with others. Along with his love for music, he also enjoyed country dancing. John's greatest joy was the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, Cori, Nikki & Kyle. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial donations may be made to the Triad High School Band or Triad High School Girls' Tennis Team. Additional condolences may be sent to the family through this online guestbook.

VISITATION: A visitation for John will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 5:00 P.M.- 7:00 P.M. at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, IL.

FUNERAL: A funeral service will be held Friday, January 18, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Rev. Roger Wright will officiate. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery in Collinsville, IL.
