John S. Zajac, 88, of Edwardsville, Ill., born Sept. 21, 1925, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Monday, May 19, 2014, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Ill.
John retired as a chemical worker/ electrician from Monsanto. He was a member of Mother of Perpetual help Catholic Church, and former member of St. Martin of Tours in East St. Louis, Ill.; a dedicated member of the YMCA, he greatly enjoyed swimming, bike riding, tennis and bowling, and was a member of the Monsanto Bowling League. John proudly served his country as a Marine during World War II and was the skipper of the landing craft at Saipan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M., nee Henderson, Zajac; parents, Josef and Anna, nee Zigo, Zajac; three brothers, Joseph, Andrew and Paul Zajac; and a sister, Anna Kelemetc.
Surviving are two daughters, Connie (Bill) Williamson of Glen Carbon, Ill., and Marlene (Louis) Branz of Edwardsville, Ill.; and a son, Chris (Marie) Zajac of Festus, Mo.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, with Rev. Joseph Havrilka officiating. Per family request, he will be cremated.
