Joseph LeRoy Berg, 82, of Collinsville, Illinois, born June 24, 1929 in Mondovi, Wisconsin, was called home on July 14, 2011.
In 1949 he served in the U.S. Army where he was a Special Agent in the Counter Intelligence Corp. He later joined Dave Croft Motors where he was a salesman and Business Manager for 27 years. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville where he performed many duties including Sunday School Superintendent, and he worked on the building and several committees, including seven years as the Presiding Elder (Chairman). He was also a member of VFW Post 5691 for several years. While a member of the post he was All State Manager for three years. In addition, he spent many years in various organizations within the VFW. He spent 14 years as Director of Public Relations for the state of Illinois. He was also Chaplain for 15 years at Post 5691 and District 12. He received three national appointments and was District Commander for the 12th District, which had 25 posts.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Dorothea, nee Wulff, Berg; and a sister, Kathryn Nelson.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Lorraine, nee Wright, Berg; children Sandra (Daniel) Fischer, Connie (David) Barton, Mark (Cris) Berg, and Matt (fiancé Karen) Berg; eight grandchildren, Carrie L. Viviano, Aimee L. Brown, Clinton J. Fischer, Jesse C. (Elena) Barton, Alison J. Berg, Amanda L. Berg, Elizabeth J. (Luis) Martinez, and Joseph M. Berg; three great grandchildren, Sarah Barton, Rachel Barton, and Isabella Martinez; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2011 at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, Illinois.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, Illinois. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon, Illinois.
