IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judith Kay
Simpkins
February 25, 1947 – July 5, 2025
Judith Kay Simpkins, 78, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on July 5, 2025, at her residence in Collinsville.
Judith was born on February 25, 1947, in Glen Alum, WV, to parents, Paul and Mildred (Miller) Browning; both of whom precede her in death.
She married Robert Lee Simpkins, Jr., on August 11, 1968. They were married for 57 wonderful years.
She attended Berea College in Berea, KY, as well as the West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. She graduated with a major in English and a minor in German. Judith put her degree to great use as a substitute teacher for the Collinsville School District. A position she held for many years.
Judith had many hobbies. She especially loved to craft, go antiquing, decorating, reading, baking, and cooking meals for her family. She always loved to host family gatherings during the holidays. She loved telling family stories and sharing their history. She was proud of her Appalachian roots and culture. She was known for having a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh; one that will surely be missed. Judith dedicated her life to her family and loved them unconditionally. Those who knew her would describe her as charismatic, generous, and welcoming to all.
She had a profound faith in God. Her unwavering faith sustained her through the most difficult times in her life.
Remaining to cherish Judith's memory are her beloved husband, Robert Lee Simpkins, Jr.; sons, Robert Lee (Tammy Hill) Simpkins III and Benjamin Paul (Maria DeAvila) Simpkins; grandchildren, Robert Lee Simpkins IV, Benjamin Paul Simpkins, Jr., and Leslie Denise Eicholtz; great-grandchildren, Ella Varney Coleman, Chloe Varney Coleman, and Ava Eicholtz; as well as a sister, Brenda (Browning) Whited.
Preceding Judith in death are her parents; daughter, Jill Helene Simpkins; grandson, Nicholas Clay Simpkins; sister, Arlene (Browning) Newkirk; and brothers, Benjamin Richard Browning and Larry Browning.
Judith would love flowers to be sent to the family on her behalf and memorials may be made directly to the family.
A memorial service will be held at the Herr Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 1pm. Pastor Ron Habermehl will be officiating. Per her wishes, her ashes will be spread in West Virginia at a later date.
