IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Katherine
Whittington
February 12, 1931 – July 26, 2021
Katherine Whittington, 90, of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away on July 26, 2021, at her home at Villas of Holly Brook.
Katherine was born February 12, 1931, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to Clarence and Emily (Poteet) Sermon.
She lived her life for the Lord and loved her church and her church community that she was a part of since 1951. She had many roles with Meadow Heights Church: she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, she sang in the choir, and was very fond of her Kazoo playing with the "Rootie Tootie's" Group that would travel to play for local nursing homes. Katherine was not only a mother to her ten children; she took in many other children and treated them as her own.
She was a wonderful baker and was known for her bread making. She enjoyed watching John Wayne and many other old movies. Katherine was loved by all, she was a lovely person, a shining light for so many, the World will be a darker place without her. She will be sadly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Whittington; granddaughter, Katelyn Emily Hutton; brothers: Thomas Sermon and Samuel Sermon; step-children: Jeanne Muse, David Whittington Jr., Mary Cuff, and Michael Whittington.
Survivors include her sons: Gene (Sheri) Hubbard of Waterloo, Illinois, and Steve Hubbard of Swansea, Illinois; daughters: Linda Hubbard of Denver, Colorado, Jane Hubbard of Springfield, Illinois, Maggie (David) Brandt of St. Louis, Missouri, and Kathy Hutton of Berthoud, Colorado; sisters: Marcella Durbin of Louisville, Kentucky, and Ruby (Woody) Dodson of St. Louis, Missouri; brothers: Robert (Shirley) Sermon of West Plains, Missouri, and Billie (Sandy) Sermon of Monticello, Indiana; 12 grandchildren as well as 18 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Herr Funeral Home, 501 W. Main Street, Collinsville, Illinois. Funeral service will take place on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Meadow Heights Baptist Church, 1498 Vandalia Street, Collinsville, Illinois, with Pastor Robert Strong and Jim Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon, Illinois.
