Kent W. Smick, 72, of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away on October 27, 2021, at his home with family by
his side.
Kent was born February 17, 1949, to Everett Eugene and Berniece Mae (Brown) Smick in Anna, Illinois.
He married Kate Slovinski on March 11, 2011.
Kent worked for the Kansas City Southern Railroad as a Manager of Locomotive and Car Operations, and
was the 1994 President of the Saint Louis Railroad Club.
In his life, he was most importantly a devoted father. He was an avid Blues fan and enjoyed golf. He had
a passion for music and was inducted into the Gateway Men Chorus in 2014. Kent had a knack of telling
a good story and loved to make others laugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Beverly Donell.
Survivors include his wife, Kate Slovinski of Collinsville, Illinois; sons: Jeremy (Samantha) Smick of Palm
Springs, California, Gabe Smick of Collinsville, Illinois, and Brandon Smick of Chicago, Illinois; daughter,
Amy Smick of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren: Elio Smick, Xander Smick-Crouch and Mina Smick-
Crouch; sister, Cari Smick of Denver, Colorado; brother-in-law, Roger Donell of Granite City, Illinois;
mother-in-law, Jackie Slovinski of Collinsville, Illinois; as well as several beloved cousins.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Hill
Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Drive, Glen Carbon, Illinois. A private family funeral service will be held on
Thursday, November 4, 2021. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
