Lawrence David Burns

Lawrence David Burns, 52, of Collinsville, Ill., born July 18, 1964, in East St. Louis, Ill., went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at his side.

Lawrence valiantly served his country as a retired U.S Air Force officer. He served in support of Operation Desert Shield / Storm, receiving many decorations. He retired after 17 years as an avionics engineer for Jet Aviation in Cahokia, Ill. Lawrence was a very talented musician playing the base guitar. Along with his family, he enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing and camping at Carlyle Lake. He was a devoted Christian and was a member and very active at Word of Life Tabernacle Church, Granite City, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Burns Sr.; sister in law, Londa Palmer.

Surviving are his dear wife of 25 years, Janice nee Bledsaw, Burns, whom he married June 5, 1991, at Bledsaw Hill; son, Arik David Burns (Brittaney Decker) of Collinsville, Ill.; mother, Ruby nee Southard, Burns of Highland, Ill.; brothers, John W (Becky) Burns Jr. of Gillespie, Ill., Keith A (Diane) Burns of Gillespie, Ill., Daniel J (Andrea) Burns of Alhambra, Ill., Clay A (Deanne) Burns of Livingston, Ill.; sisters in law, Sharon (Don) Wood of Highland, Ill., Pam (Doug) Bowers of Mt. Vernon, Ill., Edwina (Ron) Bullard of Troy, Ill.; brother in law, David Palmer of Pierron,, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may visit with the family 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, Glen Carbon, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, Glen Carbon, Ill., with Rev. Henry Crippen and Chaplain Doug Bowers officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo., with full military honors.
