Leroy M. Walker, 83, of Highland, Ill., born Friday, Dec. 25, 1931, in Ava, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, at the Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, Ill.

Leroy retired after working 35 years at Granite City Steel and National Steel. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received the Bronze Star. He belonged to and was a deacon at Anchor Bay Lighthouse in Pontoon Beach, Ill. His passion was hunting and he also enjoyed fishing and camping. Leroy was the light of his children's life.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Alene, nee Bryant, Walker; parents, Theodore and Edna, nee Kessel, Walker; brothers, Robert and Frederick Walker; and a sister, Mary Louise Walker.

Leroy is survived by his wife, Janie, nee Brand, Walker; daughters, Lavena (Jerry) Harris of Lebanon, Ill., Faye (Randy) Tift of New Douglas, Ill., and Pauline (Randy) Winfrey of New Douglas, Ill.; sons, Clarence (Angelia) Jackson Jr., of Collinsville, Ill., and Randy Lee (Eva) Jackson of Edwardsville, Ill.; a sister, Mary Lou (Arnold) Barri of Glen Carbon, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Breeze Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Visitation: Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday Sept. 14, 2015, at the Sunset Hill Funeral Home in Glen Carbon, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday Sept. 14, 2015, at the funeral home with Pastor Kip Knavel officiating. Burial with military honors will be at the Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
