Linda Sue (Steward) Combs, age 58, of Edwardsville, IL died at her home at 6:05 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2012. She was born Wednesday December 23, 1953 in Highland, IL, and married Mark Alan Combs on March 18, 1972. He survives.

Linda was employed as a food service worker at Edwardsville Senior High School. For 35 years she was a babysitter and a surrogate mother to over 50 children. She enjoyed camping, sewing, crafts, gardening and vacationing with her family, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

In addition to her husband, Linda is also survived by her mother, Kathleen Steward of Edwardsville; two brothers, Daniel (Rick Ellis) Vetter of Edwardsville, and James (Kelli) Steward of Worden; a sister, Brenda (Ronald) Grigg of Edwardsville; Mother-in-law, Shirley Strader of Edwardsville; four sisters-in-law, Carol Steward of Alton, Connie (Dave) Sales of Farmington, MO, Kim Riggins of St. Petersburg, FL, and Sheila (Larry) Strader of Granite City; loving pets Chase and Rosa; nieces Kelly, Kara, Shelly, Stacy, Brandy and Jamie; nephews Skip Jr., Joseph, Larry Jr, Dalton and Tyler; and many great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Ernest Steward; mother, Gladys Steward; brother Charles A. "Skip" Steward; brother-in-law Mike Combs; great nephew Kristopher Mark Wyvell; and father-in-law Gene Strader.

Visitation will be at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, Glen Carbon, on Friday, August 17, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Funeral service will take place at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, Glen Carbon, on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Father Daniel Bergbower officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.

Memorials are suggested to BJC Hospice of Alton or St. Mary's Catholic Church.
