Lora Abernathy (age 90) passed away at her home on October 25, 2024.  Lora was born on November 8, 1933 in Staunton, Illinois to her proud parents, Florian and Carrie Legath.

Lora grew up in Staunton and moved to St. Louis, Missouri after graduation.  She met and married her husband, Charles Abernathy, in 1952. They were married for 56 years.  In the early 1960s, they and their son moved to Granite City, Illinois and this is where she resided until her death.

Lora was part of a very close-knit family and they shared many wonderful times together. In addition to her family life, Lora worked in the accounting field, retiring in the early 1990s. In her retirement, she enjoyed cooking, watching her favorite TV programs and working on sudoku and codeword puzzles.

Besides her parents, Lora was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, brother, Robert Legath and his wife (Lois), sister, Eileen Duke and nieces, Karen Duke and Debbie Legath.  It is ironic that Lora and her two siblings, each died in the month of October.

Lora is survived by her son, Michael Abernathy, niece, Sharon Duke, nephew, Denny Duke and wife Tory and her Granite City Davita family of nurses and techs.

Graveside services will take place at 11:00 am, Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates with Pastor Roger Wright officiating.
