With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Louis Gonzalez, born February 2, 1953, in Highland, Illinois, who passed away peacefully and quietly on Friday, April 10th, 2026, surrounded by love.
Lou spent his early childhood in Pocahontas, Illinois, where he grew up and made many of the memories that would shape the man he became. He later made his home in Collinsville, Illinois, where he lived and proudly graduated from Collinsville High School with the Class of 1971.
Lou was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, husband, family man, and friend whose strength, kindness, and steady presence touched everyone who knew him. Known for his warm smile, easygoing spirit, infectious laugh, and the joy he brought to those around him, Lou had a way of making people feel welcome wherever he was.
Lou dedicated 33 years of hard work to the phone company, where he built a respected career before retiring. His strong work ethic and commitment were qualities that carried through every part of his life.
Lou had a love for life and enjoyed riding his motorcycle, finding freedom on the open road. He also had a true passion for cooking and sharing meals, and he especially loved enjoying good food with the people he cared about. Whether gathered with family or relaxing with friends, Lou treasured the simple moments that became lasting memories.
Music was also a special part of Lou’s life. He loved to play music and go live on his music channel, sharing songs and joy with others. Lou always seemed to have the perfect song for any moment, any occasion, and anyone who needed to hear it.
He was married to Pam Gonzalez (Rothweiler) for 10 years, sharing love, memories, and companionship together. He also shared many years and the blessing of family with Cheryl Gonzalez, mother of their son, Steven. Lou also cherished Pam’s children, Justin Gowdy, Shannon Babb, Logan Gowdy, and Tessa Marquis; grandchildren Devan Gowdy, Catalina Gowdy, Caly Scott, Quinten Aman, Tavon Gowdy, and Calvin Gowdy; and their beloved dog, Auggie, who brought joy to the family.
He is lovingly remembered by his son, Steven; his grandson, Gavin; his siblings, Jeannie Ray, Don Portell, Jerri (Steve) Stone née Gonzalez, Ric (Lisa) Gonzalez, David (Marcy) Gonzalez, and Shelli (Sam) Robison née Gonzalez; along with the many family members and friends who were blessed to know him.
Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in the memories he gave us, the lessons he taught us, the wonderful laughter he shared, and the love he leaves behind.
Lou passed peacefully, just as he often lived—with grace, humility, and strength.
Visitation will be held April 27th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Herr Funeral Home, 501 W. Main St., Collinsville, IL 62234, where family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate his life.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.
