Obituary

Louis M. Johann, 84, of Cahokia, Ill., born June 21, 1929, in East St. Louis, Ill., died at 11:37 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill.

Louis graduated from Collinsville High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict and the European Occupation. He was a member of Collinsville Jaycees, receiving his Exhausted Rooster in 1965 and was later made an honorary Jaycee International Senator. He was a member of Collinsville VFW Post 5691 over 50 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and served as certified gun safe instructor and shooting instructor for several years. He was also a member of the State Rifle Association. Louis worked in sales for over 25 years at National Food companies. He had owned a furniture stripping, refinishing and upholstering company and worked many years as a furniture finisher for several different furniture chain companies. He retired from Rhodes Furniture then continued furniture work part time. He last worked as a driver for A.T.S. in St. Clair County, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Edna Johann and Georgia Johann; a son, Charles Johann; his parents, Louis Henry and Loretta M., nee Hollensen, Johann; a son-in-law, David Fitzgerald; and sister-in-law, Frances Johann.

Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Fitzgerald of St. Louis, Mo., and Angela Davis of Texas; daughter-in-law, Debbie Johann of Moline, Ill.; his brother, Robert Johann of Collinsville, Ill.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2014, at Herr Funeral Home, Collinsville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at the funeral home with Shelton Peeler officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Collinsville, Ill.
