Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Herschel B. Malvin, 91, of Collinsville, Ill., born June 30, 1921, in East St. Louis, Ill., died at 11:42 a.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013, in Maryville, Ill.
Lt. Col. Malvin was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran. He was a B24 pilot and flew 50 missions out of southern Italy, retiring from the U.S. Air Force. He was the past president of the Retired Officers Association, where he served six years on the State Board. Herschel owned the Shopping Guide in Las Vegas, Nev. He was in insurance sales from 1954 until his retirement. He was a past president of Independent Insurance Agents and volunteered for the Red Cross at Scott Medical Center. Herschel was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, Ill., serving as a deacon and member of the choir. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 365 in Collinsville, Ill.
Herschel was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph A. and Goldie E., nee Davis, Malvin.
Surviving are his wife, Paulette A., nee Pruetzel of Collinsville, Ill., whom he married on June 29, 1981; children, Darrel F. Malvin of Collinsville, Ill., Rebecca S. (Gary) Kueker of Tuczon, Ariz., and John R. (Nancy) Malvin of Troy, Ill.; step daughters, Janice Coy of Collinsville, Ill., Dr. Beverly (Joseph Tobias) Kebbel-Lenny of Las Vegas, Nev., and Nancy (Raymond) Leslie of Collinsville, Ill.; grandsons, Stephan Rowe, Aaron Coy, Darrel (Nikki) Malvin, Danny Malvin and Alex Rowe; granddaughter, Olivia (Dave) Flerra; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, Ill., with the Rev. William Engfehr and the Rev. Fred Kraemer officiating. Interment with full military honors will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon, Ill.
