M. Jean Nugent, nee Carpenter, 93, of Collinsville, Ill., born Feb. 22, 1920 in Mount Vernon, Ill., died at 3:55 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, in Highland, Ill.

Mrs. Nugent retired as a switchboard operator and receptionist from Southwestern Bell. For 35 years she also was a receptionist at the Fairmont Race Track. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Junior Service Club, DAR and other women's clubs.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph N. Nugent; daughter, Joy Lynn Nugent; parents, John Lyle and Georgia, nee Batka, Carpenter; and sister, Elizabeth Laurie.

Surviving are her daughter, Jill Ann Nugent Kopjas of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandson, Nicholas Nugent Kopjas; and sister, Georgia Zutter of Chesterfield, Mo.

Funeral: Service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Horn officiating. Interment in St. John Cemetery in Collinsville, Ill.
