M. Maxine Evans, 90 of Springfield, IL entered eternal life at 2:18pm on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Regency Care in Springfield, IL.
Maxine was born on January 14, 1930 in Walshville, IL to John N. and Mable Wall. She married Elston Evans on February 25, 1950. Elston preceded her in death in 2016. Maxine was also preceded in death by her parents and her beloved son, John.
Surviving are three daughters: Valera Yazell of Springfield, IL, Sheila Evans of Sacramento, CA, and Marcia Evans of Olympia, WA; six grandchildren, Tabatha Yazell of San Francisco, CA, Brent Yazell and Kristen (Bryan) Clow of Springfield, IL, Jessica (Mike) Rogers and Ben (Rhianedd) Hidalgo of Sacramento, CA, and Lauren Evans of Austin, TX; eight great grandchildren, Dylan, Stella and Harper Clow , Isaac and Eleanor Rogers, Elowyn Hidalgo, Hazel Cook, and Samira Martinez. She is also survived by her sister Nadine (Nelson) Kunz of Round Lake, IL, five nieces and sister-in-law Gwen Eberhart of Edwardsville.
As a child, Maxine's family lived in Walshville, IL and moved to Sorento, IL when Maxine entered high school. After graduating from high school, Maxine moved to Edwardsville IL where she worked and met her future husband, Elston. In Edwardsville Maxine worked as Secretary for Madison County Home Bureau, the Illinois Veterans Commission and spent her last 20 years at SIUE. Maxine took great pride in her career at the University and loved the energy of the campus and the young people who attended school there.
Maxine's warm smile, kind, gentle and helpful manner endeared her to all who knew her and she will be deeply missed. She adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved to tell stories about them.
M axine was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Edwardsville, where she played piano for many years. Later she and Elston joined Esic Baptist Church in Edwardsville. In 2010, they moved to Springfield, IL to be closer to their oldest daughter, Valera.
Maxine was as an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and shared this love with her father, her son, and later her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Maxine also loved playing Skipbo with her children and grandchildren, playing pinochle with Elston and friends, doing crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble (always getting the high score).

Due to current health restrictions, there will be a private memorial service on December 17, 2020 at Sunset Hill Funeral Home with burial immediately following at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL.
