Margie Marie Smith, 91, of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away on December 21, 2021, at Cedarhurst Senior Living, Collinsville, Illinois.

Margie was born April 20, 1930, in Harrisburg, Illinois, to Hugh and Hazel (Todd) Rector.  On July 7, 1957, she and George D. Smith Jr, were married at the Walnut Street Baptist Church in Carbondale, Illinois.  They were married 59 years before he passed away in 2016.

She obtained her degree in business and then studied at SIU Carbondale where she received her BS in teaching. She was an elementary teacher in Caseyville, Illinois, during her career.  She was a member of the Caseyville United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher for 30 plus years.  She also worked in their food pantry and made bears for those in need.  Margie was an avid reader and loved her grandkids and spending time with them.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, George D. Smith Jr.

Survivors include her daughters:  Linda Smith of Collinsville, Illinois, and Sara (Terry) Tipton of Marine, Illinois; sister, Jeanette Pickering of Portage, Indiana; sister-in-law, Sara Clark of Vandalia, Illinois; grandchildren: Brian Tipton and Samantha Tipton; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Herr Funeral Home, Collinsville, Illinois. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Herr Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Barclay officiating.  Burial will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Illinois.
