Obituary

Marilyn Sue (Deppe) Clasen, age 50, of Edwardsville, died Monday, May 5, 2014, in Edwardsville.

She was born May 12, 1963, in Sparta, the daughter of Russell and Elizabeth (Preston) Deppe of Sparta. They survive.

She married Dale Clasen on June 15, 1985. He survives.

Also surviving are one son: Ian Clasen of Edwardsville; one daughter: Chelsea (Rick) Knopik of Evansville, Ind.; three sisters: Debbie (Kenny) Baird of Sparta, Diane (Paul) Copeland of Kewanee and Brenda (Larry) Stork of Sparta; one brother: Dennis Deppe of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters-in-law: Jan (Jim) Creighton of The Village, Fla., and Phyllis (Doug) Hall of St. Louis; her mother-in-law and father-in-law: Clarence and Judy Clasen and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law: Alma Clasen.

Mrs. Clasen worked as a former child care provider, owner/operator of Marilyn's House Preschool, aka Miss Marilyn. She was co-founder of the Metro East Home Child Care Association (MEHCCA) and worked most recently as a nanny. Her work was the reflection of her dedication to and love of children and family.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Sunset Hill Funeral Home in Glen Carbon and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the First United Methodist Church in Sparta.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Cardinal-Glennon Children's Hospital or the Mosaic Pregnancy and Health Center.
