Marilyn Esther (Meyer) Kempfer of Glen Carbon, IL died on March 3, 2012 at Meridian Village after a long battle with emphysema. She was 74 years old, born November 4, 1937 to "Fritz" and Esther Meyer in Farrar, MO, and grew up in Perryville, MO. Marilyn married Cecil L. Kempfer and continued their marriage until he passed in 1994.



Survivors include daughter Terry (Dennis) Doyle of Rantoul, IL; son Mark Kempfer of Granite City, IL; brother Lou (Shirley) Meyer of Perryville, MO; sister Ann (Keith) Hazelwood of St. Charles, MO; grandson Eric Kempfer and granddaughter Lauren Kempfer of both Collinsville, IL; and great-grandson Brody Kempfer. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters Betty Franklin and Shirley Petzoldt.



She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and retired as a union steward from the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local #881.



A memorial service for Marilyn will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 1:30 P.M. at St. James Lutheran Church, 146 N. Main, Glen Carbon, IL 62034. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sunset Hills Funeral Home, Glen Carbon, IL. Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Meridian Village, or the American Lung Association.
