Mark Jerome VandeRiet

Mark J. VandeRiet, 56, of Fairview Heights, Ill., born February 9, 1961, in Centerville, Ill., passed away August 9, 2017,

Mark loved spending time with his family, family was everything to him. He was affectionately known by his nieces and nephews as the "Favorite Uncle". He had a wonderful sense of humor with a heart of gold, described as generous to a fault. Mark valiantly served his country in the US Army; he served twice in the Middle East as Petroleum Supply Specialist. His hobbies included watching stock car racing and University of Illinois sports. He was known as a great dancer, he and his sister Linda enjoyed dancing together.

He is preceded in death by his father, Leroy VandeRiet; his brother Dennis VandeRiet; brother in law, Mark Lees.

Surviving are his mother, Loretta, nee Powell, VandeRiet; his brothers and sisters, Daniel (Brenda) VendeRiet of Collinsville, Ill., Barbara (Danny) Cole of Jasper AL., Michael (Adell Green) VendeRiet of Mexico, Mo., Kathy (Kevin) Nesbit of Chester, Ill., Linda Lees of Fort Pierce Fl.; nephew and caretaker, Matt (Stephanie) VandeRiet; numerous other nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friends may visit with the family 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Herr Funeral Home, Collinsville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services for Mark will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Herr Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
