Mary M. Barattini, 86, formerly of Collinsville, Ill., born Dec. 20, 1928, in West Frankfort, Ill., passed away Sept. 3, 2015, in Menifee, Calif.
Mary graduated from Collinsville High School in 1947 and earned an associate's degree from Belleville Area College. She was employed by the Collinsville Herald from 1947 to 1954. She then went on to work for McDonnell Douglas as an executive secretary for 39 years and retired in 1993. Mary was a devoted parishioner at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville for over 40 years before moving to California. She enjoyed volunteering and singing in the church choir. She was also an active and passionate animal advocate. She and her sister Irene loved spending time with their two rescue dogs, Wally and Goldie.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Primo and Josephine Barattini, her brother, John Barattini; and uncles, Elia, Viterbo and Alfonso Barattini.
Surviving are her loving sister, Irene of Menifee, Calif.; and nieces, Renee Daniel (Chuck), Michelle Smith (Tim), Laurie Arias (Greg), and Tracey Diaz (Rick), all of California. She also leaves behind four great-nephews, four great-nieces, and three great-great-nieces. Mary will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Mary's honor to either Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, Ill., or any branch of the American Humane Society.
Visitation: Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 207 Vandalia St., Collinsville, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at the church. Burial will follow at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Collinsville, Ill.
