Mary "Suzie" Cox, 86, of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Jan 21, 2024. She was born at home to Cecil Edison and Zelda (Huggins) Phelps on February 5, 1937 in Granite City.

She married Jerry Cox on March 29, 1969 and they were blessed with many happy years together. Her life's work was at Laclede Steel in St. Louis and Alton. Mary retired from there after 42 years as a loyal and dedicated employee. She was talented with needlework and quilting. She enjoyed participating in the quilters group at 2nd Baptist Church, where she was a long time church member. She was a passionate supporter of animals and she loved her cats very much.

Those left to cherish Mary's memory are her husband Jerry, niece Patti Sparks, cousin Staretta Johnson, along with additional family, friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her brothers Charles and Garnet Phelps and her nephew. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends and pets, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Services will be held at 2nd Baptist Church, 2100 Illinois Ave. Granite City, Ilinois with visitation on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 9:00 AM and the funeral service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
