Obituary

Mathilda York, nee Nagy, 83, of Collinsville, Ill., born Jan. 29, 1928, in Kanjiza, Yugoslavia, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at Relais Bonne Eau Hospice Home, Edwardsville, Ill.



For many years Mathilda was employed in the St. Louis Garment District of St. Louis working in various Shoe and Handbag Factories and later as a Seamstress in Garlands Boutique. Since retiring she has enjoyed years of gardening, crafting and quilting and took pride in her work and was proud to provide her time and talents to many local charitable groups and causes. She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church of Collinsville, Ill., TNT Guild of Glen Carbon Illinois and The Quilting Club of the First Baptist Church of Edwardsville, Illinois.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth York; her parents, Lukacs and Teresa, nee Horvath, Nagy of Kanjiza, Yugoslavia; and a brother, Albert Nagy of Kanjiza, Yugoslavia.



Surviving are her children, Les (Christa) Sabo of O'Fallon, Mo., Veronica (Lloyd) Hudson of Kennesaw, Ga., Stephen (Rebecca) Sabo of Edwardsville, Ill., and Magdaline (Richard) Rohr of Millstadt, Ill.; a brother, Janos (Mathilda) Nagy of Kanjiza, Yugoslavia; 14 grandchildren, Rachel (Matthew) Arnold, Rebecca Sabo, Darren Sabo, Julie Marino, Sean (Erica) Fleming, Kevin Fleming, Matthew Sabo, Jason and Jordan Sabo, Eric (Julie) Rohr, Megan Rohr, Brad Tonnies, Matthew Tonnies and Shane Tonnies; and 10 great-grandchildren.



In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations in her name to the Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the Illinois Center for Autism. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.sunsethillcemetery.com.



Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, Glen Carbon, Ill.



Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, Glen Carbon, Ill., with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Shaw officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Hills Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
