IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maureen
Wylie
August 1, 1951 – October 17, 2021
Maureen Ann Wylie, nee Driscoll, 70, of Maryville, IL, born August 1, 1951, in East St.
Louis, IL, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, October 17, 2021.
Maureen lost her father at the age of 11 and was forced to grow up much too
quickly. She was a tireless worker from an early age, starting her first job before even
graduating from St. Philip's Grade School in East St. Louis, IL, and working multiple
jobs throughout her time at Academy of Notre Dame High School in Belleville, IL.
Maureen ultimately put herself through college at Southern Illinois University –
Edwardsville, where she graduated in 1973 with a degree in Speech Pathology and
Audiology. Maureen married her high school sweetheart, Rick, in 1972 and enjoyed
being an Army Officer's wife, with stays in Germany, Texas, and California, before
moving to Collinsville, IL in 1978. After spending the 1980s focused on being a mom
to her three kids, Maureen returned to work as a speech pathologist in the early
1990s, helping hundreds of children overcome communication obstacles to lead
improved lives. Never one to stop learning, she reenrolled at SIUE and obtained her
master's degree in Speech Pathology in 1994. By the time she retired in 2008, she
could hardly enter a store without a former student embracing her. Maureen's
greatest passion, though, was her family. Raising her children, and later in life
helping to raise her grandchildren, brought her true contentment. She had endless
patience for her family, cared about every detail of their lives, and tried so hard to
help them have beautiful, fulfilling lives. She especially loved traveling with her
family and managed to visit tens of countries and almost every state with them.
Maureen was the rare soul who took joy in everyone's success and happiness. She
closely followed the lives of nieces, nephews, family friends, and acquaintances and
took great delight in all the good they experienced. If Maureen knew you, she was
rooting so hard for you. Her family hopes to continue her legacy by being even a
fraction as caring about others as Maureen was.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the Honorable Judge John Joseph and
Mary Agnes "Nan", nee Lynch, Driscoll; siblings John"Joe" (survived by Doris),
Elizabeth "Betty", Robert "Bob" and Patricia Sue Driscoll; and brother-in-law Robert
"Bob" Cadagin.
Surviving are husband, James "Rick" Wylie of Maryville, IL; children, Lori (Antonio)
Carrozza of West Dundee, IL, Mark (Aubrey) Wylie of Edwardsville, IL, and Patricia
"Tricia" (Jonathan) Kosar of Yorktown Heights, NY; grandchildren, Jackson Wylie,
Vincent Carrozza, Caroline Wylie, Leo Carrozza, Katherine Wylie, Charlotte Wylie,
Roman Carrozza, Lillian Wylie, Lincoln Wylie, Julia Carrozza, and Tricia and Jonathan
Kosar's first child who will, no doubt, be born filled with Maureen's great spirit in
February of 2022; siblings Margaret "Peggy" Cadagin of Collinsville, IL, Dorothy
"Beebe" (Dr. Marion) Panepinto of Springfield, IL, Sister Sharon Maureen "Marilyn"
Driscoll SSND of St. Louis, MO, Cathy (John) Haunschild of St. Peters, MO, Michael
