Obituary

Murrel Elton King died peacefully with loved ones surrounding him on Monday, July 22, 2024 in Rockford , from complications of lung cancer.

Murrel was born April 18, 1933 to John and Mildred King in Edwardsville, IL.  Murrel was known for a tireless work ethic, dedication to his family, and for being an all around "Good Dude" to anyone he met or encountered throughout his life.  He served in the US Army from September 1954 to March 1958 while receiving the National Defense Service Medal.  He also was a loyal employee of Farm Service for over 45 years.  Murrel will be remembered for being an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan, racing enthusiast, card player, bowler, and fisherman.  Was also known for his devotion to wife and a super fan and supporter of anything his son was involved in.  He was also devoted to his immediate family and granddaughters Nadia Flamer and Naomi King.  Murrel always showed his loved ones how much he cared for them by always being there when work was to be completed or a project needed to be finished.  In the wake of his passing, the full scope of influence and dedication is being felt by everyone he encountered and all that loved him.  Murrel will be especially missed by his niece Debbie Close and great nephew Matthew Randle.

Murrel is survived by wife of 65 years, Betty Jean King, his son Kevin King, daughter in law Tamiko King and granddaughters Nadia Flamer and Naomi King.  Murrel is also survived and predeceased by numerous pawed companions.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in the name of Kevin King to Sunset Hills Funeral Home, Glen Carbon, IL. 62034.  Murrel never met a dog that he did not like and had a huge soft spot in his heart for all pets.  Kevin will present all of the donations to Hawthorne Animal Hospital in the name of Murrel King.  The donations will support the medical care of local Police K9 Officers.

A private visitation, service, and burial, will be held at Sunset Hills Funeral Home.
