Paul J. Herzberg, 82, of Collinsville, Ill., born Aug. 14, 1931, in Highland, Ill., died at 8:57 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at his residence.

Paul was retired from the Collinsville Unit 10 School District where he was the custodian. He was and avid sports fan always enjoyed going to cheer for the Cardinals, Rams and Blues. Paul had a passion for bowling and was a recipient many awards. He was very active belonging to the Collinsville Masonic Lodge 712 and the Belleville Moose Lodge as well as other organizations.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, nee Parks, Herzberg, whom he married on April 6, 1963, and who died in 1998; daughter, Diane Lindsey; parents, Paul and Inez, nee Moser, Herzberg; sister, Jean Herzberg; and brothers, Robert, Roy, Dwayne and Charles Herzberg.

Surviving are his two sons, Kevin J. (Delores) Herzberg of Collinsville, Ill., and Brian P. (Monina Thatcher) Herzberg of Princeton, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Ofelia Herzberg; grandchildren, Brian Herzberg Jr., Louie George, Ricky George, and Angie Briggs; and great-grandchildren, Cameron George, Courtney George, Caylee George, Cody George, Chelsey Briggs, Skyler Briggs, Peyton George, Seirra Hurt and Lexi George.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, Ill. There will be a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at St. John United Church of Christ in Collinsville, Ill., with Rev. Tony Minear officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon, Ill.
