Obituary

Paul H. Miller, 91, of Glen Carbon, Ill., formerly of Collinsville, Ill., born May 4, 1922, in Eldon, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at Relais Bonne Eau Community Hospice Home in Edwardsville, Ill.

Paul was an active member of St. John Evangelical United Church of Christ in Collinsville where he served on the church council (also as president), served as an usher for 30 years and a member of the Men's Fellowship. He and his wife were the first sponsors of the Junior High Youth Fellowship. Paul was a lifetime member of the PTA, serving also as president, an active member of the Collinsville Chamber of Commerce, serving one year as president. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge joining at Arrowsmith Lodge 737 and transferring to Collinsville Lodge 712 for a total of 65 years. He was a member of the Scottish Rite for 37 years, the Shriners (Ainad Temple) and the Collinsville Shrine Club.

Paul served in World War II in the Pacific Islands in the Air Force and had been a member of the American Legion for 59 years. He and Leo Maack formed the Miller & Maack General Contractors business in 1971.

Paul lived life to the fullest, was filled with laughter and fun and will be missed deeply by family and friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Carrie, nee O'Neal, Miller; his youngest daughter, Laura Miller; brothers, Leslie, Grant and Donald Miller; and a sister, Mary Rutledge.

Surviving are his wife, Jeannine, nee Bertram, Miller; daughters, Susan (Ed) Boerckel and Sandra (Marvin) Darling; son, Larry (Carol) Miller; grandchildren, Marvin Darling II, Tracy Darling, Angela (Matt) Tolbert, Erin (Matt) Yancey, Michael Miller and Kelsey Miller; sisters, Lucille Epperson, Dollie Miller, Marie (Clifton) Gassaway, Dorothy Scott and Linda Cowen; great-grandchildren, Price and Camden Tolbert and June Yancey; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Relais Bonne Eau House, St. John Evangelical United Church of Christ or Shriners Hospital for Children and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Herr Funeral Home, Collinsville, Ill. Masonic services at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Herr Funeral Home, Collinsville, Ill., with Rev. Tony Minear officiating.
