Obituary

Peggy (Scheibal) Hoffner, age 83, of Edwardsville, IL, died on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Stillwater Senior Living in Edwardsville, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

She was born in Alton, IL, on July 21, 1943, to Clifford T. Scheibal and Velma L. (Metz) Scheibal. She graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1961. She married Carl W. Hoffner on December 7, 1966. She went on to graduate from Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Peggy retired as a registered nurse after spending most of her career with Dr. Malench. She was a long-time member of LeClaire Christian Church of Edwardsville. Those who knew her well will remember her unwavering dedication to her family; her love for family and friends ran deep. Throughout the years she enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, her group of Card Club friends, and most of all spending time with her family.

Survivors include her only child, Carla Jean (Hoffner) McCormick and her husband, Robert, of Edwardsville; two precious grandchildren, Chelsea C. Tucker of Edwardsville and Evan K. McCormick of Edwardsville; and siblings, Kathleen R. (Scheibal) Schmidt of Edwardsville, Victoria A. Scheibal of Edwardsville, and Nicholas C. Scheibal of Palm Bay, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Hoffner; mother, Velma L. Scheibal; father, Clifford T. Scheibal; and sister, Linda K. (Scheibal) McCoy.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Sunset Hill Funeral Home. A graveside service will immediately follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates.

Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

The family is being served by Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Drive, Glen Carbon, IL, 62034
