Peggy (Schuetz) Moore Guthrie, 64
Peggy (Schuetz) Moore Guthrie, 64, passed away at 1:30 pm on Saturday, November 13,
2021 at University Care Center in Edwardsville, IL.
Peggy was born on October 7, 1957 in Rockford, IL to Lewis and Winnifred (Rhoades)
Schuetz. Her parents preceded her in death.
Peggy graduated from Sparta High School in Sparta, IL in 1975 and later attended
McKendree University in Lebanon, IL, graduating with honors in 2002. She worked in
the teaching profession until retiring in 2020 from Central Elementary School in
O'Fallon, IL. Peggy was very proud of going to college as an adult and graduating with
honors at age 45. Some of you will also remember her from her part-time job working at
McDonald's in Mascoutah for the past few years. She enjoyed meeting, greeting and
helping people during her time working there.
Peggy is survived by her twin sons: Timothy (Katie) Schumer of Glen Carbon, IL and
Daniel (Kathy) Schumer of Columbia, IL; her 4 grandchildren: Michael and Evelyn
Schumer of Glen Carbon, IL and Sophia and Nicholas Schumer of Columbia, IL.
Siblings: Shirley (John) Landers of Hot Springs Village, AR; Melody (Robert) Schoeppel
of Steeleville, IL; Bruce Schuetz of Sparta, IL; John Schuetz of Lenzburg, IL and many
nieces and nephews.
Peggy loved to read, garden, cook, and play Scrabble. She also enjoyed watching her
large collection of DVDs and the St. Louis Cardinals. But most of all she loved spending
time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Peggy was cremated per her wishes. A memorial service will be held on Sunday,
November 21, 2021 at 4:00 pm at Red Bud Bible Church (formerly First Baptist
Church), 1445 W. Market Street in Red Bud, IL. Visitation is 3:00 pm until the time of
the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family will accept donations which will be used for a memorial gift
in her name to McKendree University.
