Obituary

Reyth E. Stallings Smith, nee Richardson, 90, of Granite City, Ill., born Aug. 10, 1924, in Pocahontas, Ark., died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at Liberty Village Nursing Home, Maryville, Ill.

Reyth enjoyed sewing, playing tennis, painting and gardening. She lived most of her life in Granite City, Ill. She took art classes in the evenings and won many ribbons for her lovely still lifes, landscapes and portraits at art shows in the Granite City area. She also loved working in her garden and playing tennis in Wilson Park. She was a faithful Christian and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who loved to travel with her family to visit her sisters and their families in Ohio, Oklahoma and Louisiana. A fun-loving grandmother, she enjoyed many special moments with her grandchildren. In her later years, she took several memorable trips with her sisters and their husbands.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold E. Stallings, whom she married Oct. 13, 1946, at the First Presbyterian Church, Granite City, Ill., and who preceded her on April 21, 1992; second husband, Norman L. Smith, whom she married Feb. 14, 1998, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and who preceded her on Sept. 6, 2005; also preceded by a great-grandchild, Eugene Stallings; sisters, Ruth Richardson Cutbirth, Dorothy Richardson Strickland and Mary Ellen Richardson; a brother, Charles Odell Richardson; a sister-in-law, Mary Richardson; and a son-in-law, Robert Bellatti.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Stallings Bellatti of Springfield, Ill.; a son, John Eugene (Dawn) Stallings II of Granite City, Ill.; two brothers and two sisters, James David Richardson of Athens, Tenn., Bettie Richardson (Lee) Hawkins of Norman, Okla., LaVerne Richardson (Walt) Philpot of Thibodaux, La., and Phillip Joseph Hawkins of Mount Vernon, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Betty Richardson of Jonesboro, Ark.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Bellatti, Justin Paul (Jude) Stallings, Kristin Bellatti (Matt) Hack and Jaclyn Stallings Moylan; great-grandchildren, Hailey Moylan, Avaree Hack and Aidan Hack; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank her caregivers at The Fountains in Granite City, Ill., for their special care during the five years that she lived there.

Funeral: Funeral will be held at noon Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, at Sunset Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. John Hembruch officiating. Burial in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
