Richard George passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012 in Grapevine, Texas at the age of 78.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley.

Richard was a long-time resident of Collinsville, Ill., and was an avid fan of the Cardinals, the Illini and the Texas Rangers.

He is survived by his children, Gary George of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Kim Jeremias of St. Rose, Ill.; Becky Siegel of Maryville, Ill.; Teresa Minton of Fults, Ill.; Rick George of Colleyville, Texas; Shari Armstrong of Flower Mound, Texas; Jeff George of Maryville, Ill.; and Mike George of Collinsville, Ill. He also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were an important part of his life. He will be remembered as a loving father, husband, brother, and friend.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations to Hospice of Southern Illinois at 305 S. Illinois, Belleville, Ill. 62222, and will be accepted at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.herrfuneral.com.

Visitation: The wake will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at Herr Funeral Home, 501 West Main Street, Collinsville, Ill.

Funeral: A viewing will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. prior to the 10 a.m. funeral on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Mother Of Perpetual Help Church, 200 N. Lange Street, Maryville, Ill. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, Ill.
