COLLINSVILLE, IL- Richard D. Stopher, 76, of Collinsville, IL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born September 26, 1941 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He married Evelyn Deweese on April 10, 1971 in East St. Louis, IL. She survives and resides in Collinsville, IL.

Also surviving are his children, Rebecca (Brian) Jones of Highland, IL and David (Gina) Stopher of Troy, IL; seven beloved grandchildren, Sutton, Summer, Sullivan, Sutherland, Troy, Gage and Maya; and siblings, Clover (Stopher) Allen of Grand Blanc, Michigan and Carolyn (Turpin) White of Moore, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil "Bud" K. and Norma C. (Wood) Stopher; brother, Robert W. Davy; and brother-in-law, John Allen.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was enlisted from December 30, 1959 and was discharged as a staff sergeant on December 16, 1966.

Richard earned his Master's degree in social work from Washington University. He worked and retired from the Illinois Department of Human Services as an assistant administrator. He was a longtime member of the Collinsville Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for 17 years. Richard will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Collinsville Church of Christ or Potter Children's Home. Memorial donations may be given at the church or sent to Herr Funeral Home, 501 W. VISITATION: A visitation for Richard will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018 from 4:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. at Collinsville Church of Christ, 1400 Troy Rd, Collinsville, IL 62234.

FUNERAL: A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 11:00 A.M.at the church.

Cremation rites will be accorded following services. Inurnment will be at a later date at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
