Obituary

Robert Alan "Bob" Hlavsa, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, from complications surrounding congestive heart failure. He was born May 26, 1944, in Highland, Ill.

Bob worked as a field engineer at Granite City Steel for nearly 40 years, retiring in 2003. He enjoyed his family, his home, yard work, swimming in his pool, woodworking and doting over his Airedale Terrier, Abby. His absolute favorite time of the year was Christmas - he loved the music, the decorations, the food and the family being together. He took such pride in putting up lights on his house and even won an award from the City of Glen Carbon for his display. He leaves behind a legacy of love, caring, joy and a wonderful sense of humor which was enjoyed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary; brother, Joe; and many aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife Karen, nee Wadlow, Hlavsa; son, Brian; granddaughter, Emma; sisters, Marilyn (Ray) Wolfel and Darlene (Don) Wessel; sisters-in-law, Betty Wadlow Schlemer and Barbara Wadlow (Tony) Giardina who "adopted" him into their family, and was loved by them like a brother. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces and great-great-nieces.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Heart Association or to the Madison County Humane Society.

Service: Bob did not want a visitation - he wanted a party to celebrate his life. On Saturday, March 23, 2013, family and friends can celebrate Bob's full life at The Wooden Nickel in Glen Carbon, Ill. from noon to 4 p.m.
