Robert J. Mitchell, 71, of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away Sunday, May 17th, 2015. A Memorial Gathering will be held Monday, May 25, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Collinsville, Illinois. Graveside service will be held in Streator, Illinois on Friday, May 29th, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Russian Greek Orthodox Cemetery.

Robert was born Wednesday, April 26, 1944 in Streator, Illinois to Walter and Helen, nee Cook, Mitchell. He is survived by sister, Marcia (Harry) Redd of Collinsville, Illinois. He is further survived by nieces; Cory (Joel) Smith of Glendale, Arizona, Tina M. Redd, of Antioch, Illinois, nephews; Walter H. Mitchell, III, (Christina) of Phoenix, Arizona, Kelley G. Mitchell of San Antonio, Texas, and Eric L. Redd (Kristen) of Antioch, Illinois. He is further survived by several great nieces and great nephews, cousins and two aunts and an uncle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Walter Mitchell, II, and sister-in-law, Barbara Mitchell.

Robert was a 1962 graduate of Streator Township High School and later graduated from University of Illinois. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and later retired from McDonald''s. He was also an avid Geneology researcher. Robert was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Collinsville, AARP, and supported Veteran''s Associations.
