Robert L. Schikowski, 95, of Collinsville, Ill., born Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1920, in Collinsville, Ill., passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville, Ill.

Robert retired from Harrison Lumber Co., in St. Louis, Mo., and Gauen Lumber Co., in Collinsville, Ill. He was chairman of elders at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville and held numerous positions at Pleasant Ridge Lutheran Church in Maryville, Ill.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Marie, nee Blass, Schikowski; sisters, Wilhelmina Gronemeyer and her husband Wesley, Hedwig Willoughby and her husband Robert, Elsie Poneleit and her husband Charlie, and Pauline Parkinson; and his two brothers, Carl and William Schikowski.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth, nee Harris, Schikowski of Collinsville, Ill., whom he married on Dec. 29, 1946; his children, Judith (James) Mentz of Collinsville, Ill., Ronald (Debby) Schikowski of Collinsville, Ill., and Donna (Ronald) Bontz of Edwardsville, Ill.; grandchildren, Jeremy Robert Mentz (Mary Maley) of Fremont, Calif., Jonathan Richard (Nicole) Mentz of Worden, Ill., Jennifer (Mark) Mentz-Crider of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Heather Schikowski Giacoletto (Scot) of Troy, Ill., Sean Karl Schikowski (Emily) of Collinsville, Ill., and Briana Nicole Bontz of Edwardsville, Ill.; sister, Elfrieda Blase of Highland, Ill.; and great-grandchildren, Grace and Gabriale Giacoletto, Dylan and Alyssa Crider and Austin Mentz.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Collinsville, Ill., with Rev. Dr. Dale Meyer officiating. Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
