Robert "Bob" V. Butterfield, 92, of Collinsville, Ill., born August 9, 1932, in East St. Louis, IL, died on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL after succumbing to sepsis.

Bob graduated with the Collinsville High School Class of 1950, and then went on to graduate from Colorado College with a bachelor's degree in structural civil engineering. His one and only job was as a structural engineer working for Sverdrup & Parcel in St. Louis, which became Sverdrup Corporation. He was part of the design teams that had worked on some notable projects such as bridges for the St. Louis MetroLink, earthquake-proofing rehabilitation of the Poplar Street Bridges in St. Louis, locks and dams in the Ohio River, and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge & Tunnel highway system. He retired in April 1994.

Bob was an active member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in O'Fallon, IL and was formerly a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Collinsville until its closing. He enjoyed listening to music and could be found attending many municipal band concerts in the Metro East area. He also enjoyed traveling and had taken many river and ocean cruises with his wife, Loris, until her death, and then with his son Robert G. Butterfield and daughter-in-law Susan E. Butterfield.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Homer J. and Lois M., nee Vancil, Butterfield, as well as his wife Loris F., nee Steward, Butterfield, whom he married on February 21, 1960, and his son James A. Butterfield.

Surviving are his son, Robert G. (Susan) Butterfield of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren, Sarah K. Butterfield of Fitchburg, WI, Sally L. (Shane) Farrow of Largo, FL, Paul J. Butterfield of DeLand, FL, and Max D. Butterfield of Altamonte Springs, FL; his great grandson Myles S. Farrow of Largo, FL; and his brothers John "Jack" H. Butterfield of Collinsville, and David H. (Loie) Butterfield of San Diego, CA.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the funeral home with The Reverend Dr. Gregory Wilde of St. Michael's Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery, Collinsville, IL.
