Roberta J. Lewis of Granite City, Illinois passed away on May 5th, 2024, at the age of 81. She was born to Robert and Opal (Taylor) Schnieder on September 4th, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois.
She married the love of her life Albert S. Lewis on December 26th, 1965, at Saint Maria Goretti Church in Schiller Park, Illinois. Sharing 58 wonderful years in marriage together.
Roberta had a passion for reading and learning, thus leading to her pursuing her career in education. She first attained her Undergraduate degree in education at Northern Illinois University and went on to receive her master's in education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. With her degree's, Roberta went on to work and teach at Granite City School District and St. Elizabeth Catholic School for thirty years.
Roberta was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. After her many phone calls with her daughter, she would be known to drop everything and make a Target run for whatever the grandkids may need at that moment. Roberta also had a love for her sweet kitty, Mr. Orange, who lived to the age of twenty-two. She was such a loving woman that even at the end of life, her son spoke of the honor it was to care for her, showing her the love, she had shown him his entire life.
Roberta is survived by her husband Albert Lewis, her sons Mike Lewis and John Lewis, daughter Kathy MacLaughlin (Matt) and her three grandchildren, Marissa Lewis, Nick MacLaughlin and Nathan MacLaughlin.
The family requests that donations be made in her honor to Saint Elizabeth Catholic School, Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church, or to the Old Cathedral Church in Saint Louis.
Services will be held at Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road, Granite City, Illinois on Wednesday May 15th, with visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the funeral service beginning at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery, in Glen Carbon, Illinois.
