Obituary

Roland Terry Porter, of Collinsville, Illinois passed away Sunday May 5th, 2024, at the age of 79. He was born to Roland O. and Catherine (Furfaro) Porter on December 24th, 1944, in East St. Louis, Illinois.

On September 10th, 1962, at the age of 17, Roland ran away to Arkansas to elope with the love of his life, Janeth Kay Jones. Roland was known to always bring Janeth a rose whenever he came inside from the garden, picking it himself, showing his love. Sharing a lifetime of memories and celebrating 62 years of marriage, Roland will be missed by his beloved wife and life-partner.

Awaiting his arrival in heaven, Roland was reunited with his brother William Porter, Son Terry Dean Porter, Son-in-law Glen Graham, precious baby grandson Andrew Siegel and great grandson Hunter Graham.

Roland is survived by his wife Janeth Kay Porter (Jones), daughter's Tammy (Ed) Siegel and Karen (Glen) Graham, son Paul Timothy Porter; brother Timothy Porter, sister Trudy Porter, grandchildren Heather Siegel, Chase Siegel, Jana (Josh) Parker, Glen Ray Graham, Kade Edwards, Preslie Thomas, and great grandchildren, Colten Parker, Camden Parker, Caiden Parker, Brianna Graham, Raelyn Graham and Paisley Herr.

Roland retired from a long career with Boeing as a machinist at the age of 55. This early retirement gave him and Janeth the opportunity to enjoy life together in their later years. Roland was a very hard worker and did everything he could to support his wife and four children. He was a great provider, who was always there when you needed him, always asking, "Do you need anything?", to which his children would often reply, "No daddy, we got this." Regardless, Roland was always there to fix everything and anything, and not just with duct tape, he could actually fix anything. Janeth would often bring him her necklaces in knots, and Roland would sit there meticulously with a toothpick and pull the delicate chain apart again, making it perfect.

Roland had a passion for hot rod cars, owning his own 1957 Chevy that he would take to the track and drag race with the family cheering him on. Roland always had the cleanest car in town, inside and out. He was so good with cars he could take an entire engine apart and put it back together in an afternoon. His passion for cars and his kindness started at a young age when he worked on a farm daily to save up money to buy his father his first vehicle, an orange Nova that was affectionately known as Betsy. Roland also surprised Tammy with her dream car, a Trans Am with the gold "screaming chicken" on the hood, as well as buying Paul a mustang once he got into cars.

Boxing was also a passion of Roland's; he loved watching all the pay-per-view fights and was looking forward to the Mike Tyson Vs. Jake Paul fight. Now he will have the best seat in the house, getting to watch the fight from heaven.

Every day, Roland would say, "I miss my family", as he had such a deep love for all his family members. Now, Roland will be greatly missed by his family as his kind heart and loving spirit will live on forever through all who had the pleasure of getting to know, love and cherish him.
