Roma W. Abbott, nee Williams, 91, of Glen Carbon, Ill., born Saturday, Jan. 5, 1924, in Evanston, Ill., passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.
Roma was a member of the Junior Service Club, Christian Women's Society, Collinsville Area Camera Club, Illinois Trekker's Volksmarch Club, the Collinsville Chorale, The First United Methodist Church in Collinsville, Ill., and the Methodist Women's Club. She served on the church board, was in the church choir, and was a Parish Caller. She worked at the Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House and Illinois Job Service; she also worked for Krogers and the Ammunition Plant in Joliet, Ill. Roma was a supporter of the Alzheimer's Association, Parkinsons Foundation, Spina Bifida Association of Greater St. Louis, Illinois Wesleyan University, the World Vision and the Joyful Ringers at Eden Village where she was a resident and on the resident's board. She received her BS in sociology from Illinois Wesleyan University. Roma enjoyed reading, sewing and cooking. She was a poet, artist and had her photographs published through the Camera Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. Abbott, whom she married on July 14, 1946, in Kankakee, Ill., and who died Sept. 2, 2002; and her parents, Rev. Dr. Morgan and F. Maude Williams.
Surviving are two sons, Ross W. (Susan) Abbott of Troy, Ill., and Mark A. (Pam) Abbott of Bethalto, Ill.; three sisters, Joan Mueller of Arlington, Texas, Kathleen Ruch of Kankakee, Ill., and Adine (Keith) Kretschmer of Sequim, Wash.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church. Roma's final place of rest will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon, Ill.
