Ronald Hughes

Ronald Eugene Hughes, 74, of Glen Carbon, Ill., born on Jan. 5, 1942, died on Monday, Sept. 26, 2016 at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon, Ill.

Ronald served in the US Army. He was a physicist and computer technician who assisted in the first moon landing. He was stationed in Antigua and many other places around the world. He was a kind and generous man who always was willing to help others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel E. and Ollie Pearl, nee Robinson, Hughes; sister Barbara Lynn Hughes; and brother Gerald Alfred Hughes.

Surviving are his companion of 40 years Cherree Rapp of Glen Carbon, Ill.; niece Julie (Bruce) Schottel and their children Andrew and Alyssa of Glen Carbon, Ill.; children Steven Hughes, Christina Goodwin, David McLean and Brenda Nieman; siblings Patricia Ann Ferguson, Diana Gail Williams, William Terrance Hughes, Pamela Jeanne Atcitty and Cheryl Marie LaMay.

Visitation: Friends may visit from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, Glen Carbon.

Funeral: Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 at the funeral home with Reverend Katie Jo Fuller officiating. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery Edwardsville, Ill.
