Obituary

Ronald Lee Moehle, 77, of Bethalto, Illinois, passed away quietly on December 10, 2023 with his family by his side, after a lengthy illness. He was born to Ralph H.H. and Evelyn (Straube) Moehle on June 22, 1946 in Bethalto, Illinois.

Those left to cherish Ron's memory are his children Michael (Michelle) Moehle of Bethalto, Illinois, Cindy (Rob) Straebel of Panama City, Florida, Marc Roberson of Maryland Heights, Missouri, Lynn (Jeff) Klepac of Maryland Heights, Missouri, Ronda Buck of Seattle, Washington, grandson Michael Ostrander of Woodriver, Illinois, 7 great grandchildren, along with other family and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his beloved wife Bonnie Moehle, they married on June 22, 1984 and shared 38 happy years together before her passing in 2022.  Also preceding him were his sisters Sue Ellen Moehle, Donna Mandrell, brother in law Errol Mandrel, and his parents Ralph H.H. Moehle and Evelyn Custer. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Ron proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1964 to 1970, during the Vietnam war. Throughout the time of his service he received several citations including the Presidential Unit Citation, National Defence Service Medal with Device, Good Conduct Medal and two Purple Hearts. His goal of a long career with the Marines was cut short when he was wounded during combat, and retired as a E5 Sergeant. Ron truly personified the USMC motto - "For the promises that America has made. For the promise that America is. Marines remain true to the motto of Semper Fidelis – "Always Faithful."

Ron was a beloved man who was liked by many. He was friendly and thoroughly enjoyed his family and neighbors. He was a fan of stock car racing. He was a Pro-Am Tournament Bass Fisherman for many years, which was a pastime that he delighted in. Ron spent his life's work as an operating engineer and was a proud member of the Operators Union Local 520. He was honored to be a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association with fellow comrades, and participated in both associations for 50 years. He was always a busy man, but despite all of his hobbies and work, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather who truly relished his time with his family.

A celebration of Ron's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Dr. Glen Carbon, Illinois. A graveside service will follow with a military ceremony provided by the US Marine Corp Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Disabled American Veterans Association.
