Roy John Hanser Jr., 85, of Collinsville, Ill., born Sunday, Jan. 25, 1931, in East St. Louis, Ill., passed away Friday, March 18, 2016.

Roy served valiantly in the United States Marine Corps. during the Korean Conflict and later became a carpenter by trade. He was also a Scout Master for the Boy Scout Troop 83, Carpenters Union, and Marine Corps League. Roy was an advocate of the Collinsville Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy John and Rose May, nee Freeman, Hanser Sr.; and former wife, Dolores Bilyeu, Hanser.

Surviving are his children, Curt Alan (Cindy) Hanser of Sun City, Ariz., Lisa (Charlie) McIntosh of Granite City, Ill., Laura (Brian) Burkhalter of Bourbonnais, Ill., and Carol Ann (Darryl) May of Littleton, Colo.; sister, Doris Hanser McGinnis of Collinsville, Ill.; grandchildren, Shauna Burkhalter, Bradley Iroine, Paul Burkhalter, Josh Hanser, McKenna May, and Keegan May; and former wife, Brenda Hanser.

Memorials may be made in his honor to the Collinsville Historical Society.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Herr Funeral Home, Collinsville, Ill.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
