Obituary

CASEYVILLE- Roy T. Valdez, 87, of Fairmont City, IL, born April 27, 1931 in St. Louis, MO, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Caseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation in Caseyville, surrounded by his loving family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elvera M. Valdez, his parents, Espiridion and Mariana Barrera Valdez, two sisters, Paulina Ramirez and Guadalupe Barboza of Fairmont City, IL; five brothers, Emilo Valdez, Cecil Valdez, Ernesto Valdez, Eugene Valdez, all from St. Louis, MO and Jessie Valdez from California.

Surviving are his children, Rita Barrera (Francisco) of Cahokia, IL, Roy D. (Laverne) Valdez Jr. of Granite City. IL; and Richard M. Valdez of Fairmont City, IL; grandchildren, Jackie Stone (Tony) of St. Louis, MO, Angela Valdez Dolosic of Granite City, IL, Crystal Suarez (Raul) of Granite City, IL, Alejandra Barrera (Chad) of Collinsville, IL and Francisco R. Barrera of Marion, IL; eight great-grandchildren. He was also a dear uncle, friend, and Godfather.

Roy Sr. was a friend to many, including dear friend and neighbor, Bob and Jackie Belba and family, and especially to his dear cousin, Barney and Pat (Sally) Barboza, who lived next door. They would always take time to say hi and always asked if there was anything they could do for their Aunt Veda and Uncle Roy. He will be missed by all who knew him.

In his early years, before he was married, he worked in an amusement park. He also worked at a bowling alley as a pinsetter for around 5 cents a game. He also worked at Pauly Jail Company making jail cells. When he moved to Illinois, he began working for Mercury Cabinet Company and also Granite City Steel for a short period of time. After the strike was over, he began working for McDonnell Douglas for over 30 year. He worked on IUD machines and as a plater for the company, until his retirement.

When Roy lived in St. Louis, MO, he belonged to the Benito Juarez (Mexican Organization) for a number of years.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Additional condolences may also be sent to the family through this online guestbook.

SERVICE: A memorial service for Roy will be held on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. in the library at Caseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation, 601 W. Lincoln Ave, Caseyville, IL 62232. Father Linus Umoren will officiate. Herr Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Cremation rites have been accorded.
