Royd Benyr, 88, of Collinsville, Ill., born Tuesday Oct. 4, 1927, in Collinsville, Ill. died Wednesday Oct. 7, 2015, at Liberty Village Nursing Home in Maryville, Ill.

Royd retired as a compliance officer with the Department of Labor. He graduated from Collinsville High School and obtained a degree from the University o f St. Louis. He proudly served his country during World War II and the Korean conflict while in the US Army. Royd was a member of the VFW Post 5691 and the American Legion Post 465 both in Collinsville.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Benyr; his mother, Mary Charlotte, nee Struebe, Benyr; and his cousin, Shirley (Bill) Luebbers.

Surviving are his two cousins, Kent Luebbers and family from Caseyville, Ill., and Kay Smith and family from Hoffman Estates, Ill. Also his caregiver, Judy Omelsona and family from Chicago, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at the Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at the Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, Ill with the Rev. Tony Minear officiating. Internment will take place following the service at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Collinsville, Ill.
