Ruth Eileen Agles Phillips Flagg, 95, of Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville, IL, passed away September 20, 2012.
Born November 13, 1916, daughter of the late Joseph Agles and Mae McLean Agles, in Edwardsville, IL, she was preceded in death by four brothers Vincent "Bud", Marion "Mike", Edward, and William. She was also preceded in death by a son John J. Phillips, M.D., and a granddaughter, Sarah Phillips.
She attended a nursing program at St Elizabeth''s Hospital in Granite City, where she met and married her first husband, John H Phillips, M.D., and began a family. After he passed away, she married the second love of her life, James Flagg and lived in Collinsville. Some years after he passed away, she moved to an apartment at Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville in 2006.
Ruth loved flowers and her garden; she also loved the wildlife that lived in abundance there. Ruth truly loved every aspect of life the Lord blessed her with and among these gifts she especially loved her 49 great grandchildren.
Surviving are son James (Wendy) Phillips, M.D., of Woodbridge, CT, son Thomas (Alice) Phillips, M.D., of Wirtz, VA, daughter Mary (John) Bolster of Thornton, NH, daughter-in-law Anita Phillips of St. Louis, MO and Surfside, FL, and her dear friend, Joseph Schindler of Belleville, IL. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staffs at Our Lady of the Snows and St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville for their loving care over the past few years. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory to Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, Illinois, would be appreciated.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 4:00 p.m. " 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, IL. Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:15 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2012 at Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, IL, with Father Tom Hayes officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.
